Project Plan: 2009-2010

Detailed description:
Privacy, security and connectivity are issues that always comes to mind when we address or put in practice a social relation being on the personal level or on a virtual environment. As consumer of information we are constantly encouraged to participate in those rituals of associative networks and by assuming our positions into it we becomes spectators of a purely virtual environment. As the need for networking evolves and transform our lives and our social spaces so does our dependancy on those engaging mechanisms.

My studio project is meant to uncover the relations between the systematic behind the networking discourses and social identity. Being that privacy and security are two main concerns when addressing network connectivity I will try to assess the structures that lead to the dissociative effect of displacement on interconnected spaces. Piracy is another concern I will be researching, specially the effects it may have on social and intellectual labor. Most of my new work rely on net and software-art as well as some video dynamic. It is possibble that this year i will be incorporating some experimentation on Processing and other generative coding (Not sure, have to thinks on the limitations on the media).

Data is everywhere as are the signs that conform the significance.

Research project:

Working title:
Disembodied Networked Intimacy

Working hypothesis:
What I need to prove is how it is possible that we can reinterpret social identity through networking information. What are the implications behind the cognitive mechanisms that create those interconnective systems? What are the elements that make possible a restructuration of the social relations in a virtual environment? Is social presence undermined by virtual displacement? What is security and how it is perceived in a global scale information grid?

Description:
Identity, today, and in a wide sense may be seen as a collection of roles and actions that differentiates the individual from the others. Because identity and its relations to the environment help shape a simulated reality in our social space. Every aspect of social culture in modern societies is been invariably tied to network relations; global scale informational highways that we use and abuse everyday without ever stop and think how is that it works, what are the processes that lies hidden on it, and the effects it have on our so called normal life. It is interesting how important these networks have become and how flawless it need to be to control and be part of the constantly growing model of living.

Networks information is not only redefining the roles and models of past industrial economies but it is generating new patterns of materiality and with this I mean new mechanisms based on social exchange through virtual spaces, where users on themselves create the experience they crave and need.

Connecting art and research projects:

Paragraph connecting the projects:
This year projects involves hacking, net art, generative and processing environments and video-performance. Im still working on the idea of identity only that this year it is more concise, delimited to the subject of social identity and network connectivity. This year contrary to l;ast year I am more immersed on networks and internet as platform. It is still connected by means of sub-themes only that for me now is more challenging.

Criteria to evaluate the success of the art project:
I will be evaluating the results by means of users response. Most of the project already are counting visits and points on access, beside that I am still on the same track only further.

(Looking for experimentation, sabotage, social values devaluation and network identity as a construct in the social environment) Lots of it to sustain the proposal and ultimately the success of the project.

Connect past and future projects:
These projects are connected in terms of the discourse I been working on. The aesthetic is different as well as the approach because in the former year i was more interested in identity as a natural and inherent part of the subject, now I am more interested in the social aspect of it. Another thing i will be developing and taking further is the discourses on connectivity and network security through software aesthetics.
