Project Plan: Summer Residency 2008

1. Art studio proyect:

Working title:
Trans-gender(rational) modification of the objectualized image.

Detailed description:
An initial synthesis of what i (the objectualized-gendered subject) am doing at this very moment would be the tergiversation of particular images or messages from different medias into contrary object of perception. Passive elements of the image will be transferred to a different context or argument, making therefore an active elements that would be turn into an antithesis of the former message.

Although is practically a deconstruction, the work on itself does not rely on Derrida, or post-structuralism theories as a whole even when the message-object is decrypting / re-utilizating a system of symbols to change it’s role appearance or significance. These roles will be decontextualized, inverted, tergiversated, re-created or even fragmented on micro-narratives of its former contextual content. It is possible that in the process the discourse of identity would be re-claimed, abandoned or taken again just because it’s importance to my own condition of having a dual identity, Puertorrican vs American, although it relevance are not the main viewpoint of the projects. What i would be doing is to confront the reality of the object, and with this not necessarily a physical but based on its condition, its use. Decontextualizing the real symbolism of the message inherent to the content, to achieve my own signs besides the one assigned to it by it’s former significant.

The reason, i believe in the work of art as a message and not only as an object of pleasure. Although this premise is inherent to it’s object condition. With the post-modernity contrary to other movements or conditions of the history of the human subject, the discourses and the meta-narratives of civilization fragments in hyper-texts that in someway or the other molded our perception of what is to be part of history. Data is everywhere as are the signs that conform the significance.

2. Research project:

Working title:
Trans-gender(rationalism): Modificating the contextual hypertext of the message

Working hypothesis:
Tergiversation of particular images or messages from different sources into contrary object of perception.

Description:
Like addiction, the searching for sense is our never-ending standing, the reason why we are practical and functional. It’s like we are transferring our fears, our incapacity’s and guilt’s into objects of desire, objects that relieves us of the feeling of emptiness associated with living in a society more preoccupied with images. As cultures becomes more fragile and transparent, the real evidence of its demise often turn into mere fake representations of greatness and power. And it’s power that trigger the real sense of joy, an illusional happiness that we always confuse with perfection and harmony. I will practically will be exploring these discourses not looking for a ultimate truth as i don’t think it exist but a search for a happy medium between the identity as a construct and the immaterial spectacle.

3. Connecting art and research projects:

Paragraph connecting the projects:
This project will practically begin from scratch. I been working on several media and although my proposal always intended to confront and subsequently unite all the processes it was not until now that i am able to make the adjustment necessaries to complete this stage of my work.

Criteria to evaluate the success of the art project:
Practically i will look for the presence of experimentation, self-sabotage, historical devaluation of its former meaning, identity as a construct of the social environment and the investigation, lots of it to sustain the proposal and ultimately the success of the project.

Connect past and future projects:

I always been fascinated by the mediatic discourse of duplication, replication and Antropofagia (Cultural) as a system of cultural heritage assimilation. But have never been able to successfully integrate all the fields that i work with. At one moment most of my work were paintings, then music, then design, then coding, then blogging; many things at the same time but never really integrated, mostly because everyone i thought have it’s own space to be.

Right now… i intent to develop a body of work using all these tools i’d been using for the last 10 years in a single proposal.

Formulate entire project plan in one or two meaningful sentences:

I will be using all the tools and actions i have at disposal to develop my proyect; that includes but are not limited to video, painting, photography, actionscript, php, html, ajax, performance, installation, etc.
